Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians joined his players on social media this week for #BlackoutTuesday to bring attention to social injustice in our country, which was brought to light once again following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a white Minneapolis police officer.
Arians spoke with reporters today on a Zoom call about the protests and what is going on in our country at the moment. While the coach did speak, too, about training camp and what we can expect from his team, he offered some great insight into what’s happening in our society.
Take a look at the below at some tweets from The Athletic‘s Greg Auman.
Bruce Arians, talking on a Zoom call with reporters today, said he doesn't expect Bucs players to report until the start of training camp, which would be July 21. Doesn't expect to have fans in attendance at training camp. pic.twitter.com/H2gyQmjB36

Arians said Bucs had arranged for joint practices with the Jaguars and Titans, but now cannot do those as the NFL has told teams they won't have those in preseason due to coronavirus concerns.

Bruce Arians today: "There are times when I think we haven't made any progress since 1968, when the National Guard was running down the streets of my hometown, watching what went on then, the murder of Dr. King and Bobby Kennedy."

More from Bucs coach Bruce Arians, asking about progress for our country as it relates to racism: "What's really improved since then? But a lot has. I think right now, I love the fact that people are upset and raising their voices. But don't stop."

Bruce Arians today: "Don't stop. It's one thing to march and protest, but it's another thing to take action. When the protesting's over, I would urge everybody to take action. Do something positive to help the situation. Don't just go back to being silent."
