Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has long been on the correct side of peaceful protests by NFL players during the playing of the national anthem.
On Wednesday, Rodgers took to Instagram and reiterated those feelings, which came just hours after Saints QB Drew Brees got rightfully destroyed for his ignorant statements on those types of protests. Brees told Yahoo Finance: “I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country.”
Brees was ripped by just about everyone for that stance, including some big-name teammates, other players in the NFL, and Lakers star LeBron James.
Rodgers, who supported the peaceful protests back in 2017 as well as many times since then, shared this message on Wednesday:
A few years ago we were criticized for locking arms in solidarity before the game. It has NEVER been about an anthem or a flag. Not then. Not now. Listen with an open heart, let’s educate ourselves, and then turn word and thought into action. #wakeupamerica #itstimeforchange

Well said by the Packers’ star QB.
Not well said by the Saints’ star QB.
