While it was looking like Michigan was going to be at an ultimate disadvantage compared to some other schools, the Wolverines got some good news on Tuesday.

The NCAA had lifted the moratorium on voluntary team activities, enabling schools to welcome their student-athletes back to campus as of June 1, depending on their state’s shelter-in-place guidelines. But the state of Michigan hadn’t lifted anything as of that date, and it’s ‘safer at home’ rules were set to continue until June 12. However, Gov. Whitmer suddenly reversed course, announcing on Monday that June 8 the state would fully move into Phase 4, all while rescinding the shelter-in-place order.

While that didn’t open up gyms — a necessary component for the Wolverines to truly return for summer conditioning — the new guidelines do allow for some outdoor workout activities. Thus, Michigan started getting the gears turning.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the true freshmen have been told to report to campus on June 15.

Michigan’s freshman class has been told to report to campus on June 15, a source with knowledge of the situation told the Free Press on Tuesday. A second source said Michigan’s entire team would be able to return voluntarily and players and coaches will be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival.

Of course, some have already been on campus — though they may have returned to their respective homes due to COVID-19.

Michigan had eight early-enrollees in the 2020 class, including Blake Corum and Zak Zinter on offense as well as Nikhai Hill-Green, Andre Seldon, Makari Paige, Braiden McGregor, William Mohan and Aaron Lewis on defense.

As of now, there is no set date for the entire team to return to Ann Arbor to get back to practice.
