Pro Football Focus’s annual listing of the top 50 players entering the upcoming season includes three members of the Green Bay Packers, and the “PFF50” list doesn’t even include quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers have star power entering 2020, but PFF no longer sees Rodgers as one of the NFL’s premier players.
Receiver Davante Adams (No. 39), left tackle David Bakhtiari (No. 42) and defensive tackle Kenny Clark (No. 44) represented the Packers on the list, which used a “multiyear look at their grading” and other contributing factors to narrow down a sampling of the players PFF believes will be the best in the league next season.
PFF considers Adams, a three-time Pro Bowler, to be one of the NFL’s finest route-runners and separators at the wide receiver position. Bakhtiari, a four-time All-Pro, is believed to be the “gold standard of pass protection in the NFL.” Clark, who made his first Pro Bowl in 2019, is viewed as the “modern-day nose tackle prototype.”
Together, Adams, Bakhtiari and Clark give the Packers three difference-making players, one in the passing game and one on each side of the line of scrimmage.
Six quarterbacks made the list, but Rodgers – who is no longer one of the NFL’s top statistical quarterbacks year to year – was nowhere to be found.
Last season, Rodgers graded out as PFF’s No. 8 ranked quarterback in overall grade. He threw 26 touchdowns against just four interceptions, while passing for 4,002 yards and a passer rating of 95.4, which ranked 13th in the NFL.
Among NFC North teams, the Packers and Minnesota Vikings tied with three players on the list. The Vikings were represented by safeties Anthony Harris and Harrison Smith and edge rusher Danielle Hunter. The Chicago Bears had one (edge rusher Khalil Mack), while the Detroit Lions had zero.
