The Indianapolis Colts entered this offseason willing to shell out the cash in order to get back into the playoffs after missing out on the postseason dance for the fourth time in the last five years.

In doing so, they gave quarterback Philip Rivers a one-year deal worth $25 million—all of which is guaranteed for the 38-year-old signal-caller. That contract got Rivers to make Forbes’ top-100 highest-paid athletes list for 2020. Rivers came in at No. 88 on the list.
Our friends over at Touchdown Wire compiled a list of all 31 NFL players to make Forbes’ list. Here’s what they said about Rivers.
Philip Rivers won’t be a Charger for the first time in his NFL career in 2020. But the QB will make $23.4M with Indianapolis, all but $400K in salary, the rest through endorsements.
The Colts don’t have much tied to the quarterback position when it comes to future investments. Rivers and Jacoby Brissett are the starter and backup, respectively, and both are set to become free agents following the 2020 season.
The Colts did select quarterback Jacob Eason in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, which means he’s under contract through the 2024 season, but it remains to be seen how much of an impact he will make. Chad Kelly is also a free agent following the 2020 season.
Rivers and the Colts are hoping he can make good on the lucrative deal. Both parties are hoping he can play beyond the 2020 season with Indy, but they will cross that bridge when they get to it.
Regardless, Rivers is still bringing in the cash for his family at the age of 38.
