When the Brooklyn Nets mutually parted ways with former head coach Kenny Atkinson, he was expected to find another head coaching gig somewhere in the league. With the novel coronavirus pandemic forcing the NBA into a hiatus, Atkinson’s future has not been at the forefront of the discussions surrounding the league, though there have been off-and-on talks about who will be the future head coach of the Nets — as well as the New York Knicks.
At the moment, Tom Thibodeau appears to be the favorite to land the Knicks job, but he’s not the only individual the team will interview.
In fact, according to Shams Charania and Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic, Atkinson “likely will also receive an interview.” Ian Begley of SNY followed up The Athletic’s report by tweeting Atkinson is “expected” to interview for the job.
Atkinson received his first assistant coaching opportunity with the Knicks before serving as an assistant in Atlanta, which was followed by his run in Brooklyn.
