Cardinals make biggest jump of all teams in new power rankings

However, based on where they stand, they don’t quite make the postseason in the NFC.

Power rankings don’t really mean much but it is a measure of perception. So when teams move up or move down, it is because they are believed to be comparatively better or worse.

So Cardinals fans will be pleased to see that their team was the biggest gainer in CBS Sports’ latest power rankings.

They moved up five spots up to No. 12.

This is a team that had an outstanding offseason, landing receiver DeAndre Hopkins and fixing the defense. They will be much improved.

In these rankings, three NFC West teams are in the top 12. The 49ers are fourth and the Seahawks are sixth. The Rams come in at No. 19.

With 14 playoffs teams this season, this would presumably put the Cardinals in the playoffs in these rankings, but they actually come in No. in the NFC. The Cardinals would just miss making it.

Of course, this is sort of an offseason trend nationally.

Many view the Cardinals as a much-improved team, but not quite good enough to make the playoffs.

We will see if that is the case in 2020.
