Oklahoma’s student-athletes are rumored to come back to campus on July 1.
Per a report from The Oklahoman’s Berry Tramel, the Sooners are going to wait a minute before letting student-athletes back on campus despite word from the NCAA and Big 12 saying they can allow student-athletes on campus as early as June 1 (NCAA), or June 15 (Big 12).
Per a source, Tramel says that Oklahoma will no be swayed by rivals or other competitors to return to voluntary workouts any sooner than what they see fit.
Back in May Lincoln Riley scoffed at the idea of having kids on campus on June 1 and called it “ridiculous”. Just six days later the NCAA Division I Council passed a vote to allow student-athletes to return to their campuses for voluntary workouts with their league and school approval.
Voluntary workouts simply mean that the school’s facilities are open. Student-athletes can utilize facilities while staff can be at the facilities. However, the staff is only allowed for safety reasons and cannot have anything to do with student-athlete workouts. And as always, social distancing must be practiced.
