Baker Mayfield ranked among NFL’s worst deep-ball QBs in 2019

Baker Mayfield’s second NFL season didn’t go nearly as well as hoped. It certainly wasn’t as impressive as his record-setting rookie campaign in 2018.

One of the areas where Mayfield fell off was at throwing deep. The Browns quarterback regressed from being one of the best to one of the worst at throwing the ball more than Mayfield. He ranked the 9th-worst quarterback at throwing deep in 2019, according to Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar.

Touchdown Wire notes,

In his rookie season of 2018, Mayfield threw 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions on routes requiring deep passes. In 2019, his touchdowns on such throws fell to eight, and his interceptions rose to 10, which tied for the NFL’s worst.

Mayfield has some prominent company, including draft classmate Josh Allen and fellow No. 1 overall picks Jameis Winston, Jared Goff and Kyler Murray.
