Second-generation athletes can do some crazy stuff. Observe Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey making a behind-the-back catch as he trains for the 2020 NFL season.
According to ESPN, McCaffrey has been holed up in Colorado this offseason training with family due to the pandemic.
It’s good company to keep. His younger brothers both play quarterback in college – Luke for Nebraska and Dylan for Michigan. His older brother Max last played wide receiver for the 49ers in 2019. Their father Ed was of course a pretty decent athlete in his own right. He was a Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Broncos and won a couple of Super Bowls with John Elway in the 90s plus another with the Niners.
As for Christian, last season he established himself as the top running back in the NFL and the Panthers recently gave him a four-year contract extension that makes him the highest-paid one in the league. If he can continue to play at this high level for a long time, he’ll go down as one of the best ever at his position.
Now that Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly are out of the picture, his is unquestionably the new face of the franchise.
