Ever since Kyrie Irving stated the Brooklyn Nets were a piece or two away from completing the roster in the middle of the 2019-20 season, there’s been speculation about whether or not the team will try to add a third star.
One candidate who’s been brought up frequently in recent years whenever any team is rumored to be in the market for an additional star is Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal.
The two-time All-Star has made the playoffs four times with the team that took him third overall in the 2012 NBA Draft, but the Wizards have also missed the playoffs the last two seasons. They were trying to claw their way back into the playoff picture this season before the hiatus, but Washingon was still on the outside looking in when play stopped.
When the NBA offseason begins, it may be time for teams to pursue the guard again. Based on the latest report from Stefan Bondy of New York Daily News, the Nets could be a suitor for Beal.
According to Bondy, the Nets have “internally discussed avenues of acquiring” Beal. Though Bondy notes, “It’s unclear whether Beal will become available.”
Beal is set to make $28.75 million next season, so the Nets will have to match his salary. He is under contract through 2022-23, with the last year on his deal being a player option.
