NBA expects to expand workouts by June 1, out of market players return

The NBA is now beginning to allow teams to recall players back home and begin expanding workouts.

The NBA continues to make progress on a return to play after officially suspending operations on March 11 due to the global coronavirus pandemic. After making progress towards Orlando as a spot for NBA resumption, the league is now taking another big step in making a formal return to play.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday reports that the league office will issue guidelines starting around June 1 that will allow teams to recall players who have left their markets. For the case of the Philadelphia 76ers, that would mean bringing back Josh Richardson who left Philadelphia for his home in Miami.

On top of that, teams do expect to begin expanding workouts that are already underway will in-market players. For the Sixers, this means that they can begin getting back in the gym and preparing for a resumption and finish to the 2019-20 season.

Obviously, there is no set date just yet, but this is a good step in the right direction for the season to resume. If everything is done correctly, then the league could resume by as early as July. [lawrence-related id=31299,31290,31280]
