Kyler Murray not among top deep passers in 2019

He was, though, pretty solid down the field.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray had a fantastic rookie season. He was productive in the passing game, throwing for more than 3,500 yards.

However, according to Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar, Murray did not make the list of the 10 best quarterbacks at throwing the deep ball in 2019.

However, looking at his Next Gen stats, his performance with deep passes was solid.

NFL Next Gen State

To the deep left, he had a passer rating of 75.9, which is just better than the league average of 75.3. To the deep middle, he had a passer rating of 92.6, above the league average of 87.6.

Where he had his highest passer rating of any throwing zone was to the deep right. It was 115.4, well above the average of 78.0.

With the addition of DeAndre Hopkins this season, these numbers should go up in the different zones.

The Cardinals don’t use the deep ball a lot, but Murray averaged 4.4 deep throws (20 or more air yards) per game.
