The Indianapolis Colts and veteran quarterback Philip Rivers are only tied together for the 2020 season, but both parties seem to agree on the fact that there’s a high chance it extends beyond this upcoming campaign.
Rivers himself said he would love to be playing for the Colts for more than just the one season he agreed to and now head coach Frank Reich told reporters in a conference call Monday that he anticipates the two sides will be working together beyond 2020.
Frank Reich: "I can just tell you I really believe it's Philip (Rivers') intent to play multiple years (with the Colts) … I'm very optimistic it will be a multiple year thing."

While the Colts added Rivers to help them win now in a division that is totally up for grabs, the future at the position is unclear. They did draft Jacob Eason in the fourth round, hoping he can develop into the ceiling they have for him.
But Rivers will be the starter for 2020 and if Eason doesn’t begin to show steps of development throughout his rookie season—somewhat difficult if not seeing the field—the Colts could continue to bring back the 38-year-old veteran to keep the quarterback room relatively stable.
Rivers already knows what he will be doing after he retires from the NFL. He’s already been named the future head coach of a high school football team in Alabama, but those plans are for the future.
Regardless, it seems both parties agree that they see Rivers wearing the horseshoe for more than one season assuming he continues to play well.
