Tom Segura continues to taunt wrestling fans on his podcast

Wrestling fans have major beef with comedian Tom Segura.

Comedian Tom Segura has professional wrestlers threatening to beat him up over comments he made about the sport on his podcast, Your Mom’s House, earlier this month. After a clip from the show went viral, Segura responded by continuing to hilariously needle fans in the most recent episode.

During a conversation with his wife, comedian Christina Pazsitzsky revealed that she once dated a guy who was a massive wrestling fan, which caused Segura to burst into laughter. Segura then went on an extended rant about wrestling, and called wrestling fans “[expletive] idiots,” among other, less repeatable things.

“It is the [expletive] stupidest [expletive], and I think you’re a [expletive] tool if you’re like ‘hey man, it’s not fake!’ It’s [expletive] fake, and you’re a [expletive] idiot. They’re not real fights. These are just stunt people. And the fact that guys are like ‘man, did you see The Undertaker, he actually won! …. It’s pathetic. You’re a pathetic person.”

Now, Segura is – perhaps intentionally – misrepresenting adults who like wrestling. In the modern era of WWE more than ever, pretty much everyone, children included, is fully aware that wrestling is fake. No one is overly concerned with whether WWE is a “real sport,” fans simply want to see the action and follow the storylines and root for their favorites. There’s likely still a very small minority of the “it’s real to me” people left, but it’s no more ridiculous to be emotionally invested in fake fighting than it is to be invested in fake superheroes.

Moreover, Segura is a comedian who literally makes a living by getting a rise out of people. This is probably all a work. It’s silly, even for ardent WWE fans, to actually get offended by what he’s saying, but this segment quickly went viral on wrestling Twitter, and some wrestlers even challenged Segura to get in the ring.

Segura followed up with a story about meeting Ric Flair when he was young in the most recent episode of Your Mom’s House. Segura revealed that he used to play Pee Wee football with David Flair, the son of Ric Flair, but that he never shared the story with show staffer Josh Potter before because Ric Flair is completely “insignificant.”

“Here’s what I actually was thinking about this week. That we’re friends, and that I’ve known that you’re a wrestling fan, but moreso that you’re a Ric Flair fan, from having had conversations with you. And that I’ve never told you that story, and the reason that I’ve never told you that story is because it’s so insignificant to me. Because I don’t care that I met him.”
