 The 6’10” 200-lb. walk-on was a high school football, volleyball and basketball all-star, and he is notably agile for his size.

Alger transferred to SDSU from Seattle University and his walk-on status grants him four years of play eligibility.

San Diego- Seattle University transfer Cade Alger has been added to the Aztecs roster this week.

Alger, a walk-on, has agility and versatility rarely seen for a 6’10” athlete. A graduate of Ripon Christian, a K-12 school in the Central Valley between Modesto and Stockton, Alger played football, volleyball and basketball.

Alger was Ripon Christian’s starting quarterback where he completed 103 of 159 passes for 1,485 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior. The Knights went 12-1 and reached the section championship game.

In volleyball, he was an all-state selection and two-time Trans Valley League MVP.

In basketball, he received all-state honors and was Trans Valley League MVP as well after averaging 18 points, 12.3 rebounds and three assists as a senior on a 20-11 team that reached the Div. 5 Northern California championship game.

Entering college, Alger elected to focus exclusively on basketball, his favorite sport.

He entered the transfer portal last week and heard from junior college and Div. II schools. He was discovered by SDSU assistant coach Jay Morris who saw potential in Alger to add post depth offering him a spot as a walk-on.

Alger won’t have to sit out as a transfer.  He redshirted at Seattle as a freshman last season and notably he was not on scholarship. He’ll have four years of eligibility remaining, although he will likely start off on the scout team.

According to Alger, “Growing up, playing for a Division I school in California was always my dream. I realized Seattle wasn’t the best fit for me. So I got in the (transfer) portal, and the dream comes true with San Diego State. That’s a school I always looked at as a kid. It’s just a big blessing to receive something like that.”

He added, “I just want to come in and work hard and do what I have to do to help the team any way, whether that’s on the scout team or somewhere else. Wherever they need me, I’m going to do it.”
