Next spring, among this country’s graduates will be the first class of children from the inner city in Akron, Ohio, where LeBron was born and raised, who face the same social and economic barricades he did and have been under his mentorship since the third grade. Hard to believe for anyone who’s been following the Lakers superstar’s primary philanthropic mission since it began, but 182 students from the first LeBron James Family Foundation class are on track to graduate in 2021. When that happens, many of them will have overcome unspeakable odds. What a disappointment it would be if they could not celebrate the moment with friends, classmates and maybe even LeBron on stage.
