NFL says weird Patriots and Buccaneers scheduling twist is just ‘coincidental’

So much for that, NFL fans.

If you’re a New England Patriots fan who wants to watch or follow Tom Brady as he starts his career, it’s possible you can do it without missing most of the Pats’ games in 2020.

Thanks to a twist in the NFL schedule, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Patriots won’t play at same time until Week 15, something that people wondered about — could it be a deliberate attempt to help folks missing Brady to get to watch the GOAT?

It would be a pretty cool thing given how hard it is to put together any league schedule, but according to the NFL, nope. That wasn’t the case at all, per NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy via ESPN:

“Putting together the 256-game schedule is very complex — it’s a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. The minimal conflicts here are coincidental.”

Oh well. It’s still pretty fun to think about.
