How Johnathan Joseph could help Titans land Jadeveon Clowney

Johnathan Joseph could help the Titans land Jadeveon Clowney.

When Jadeveon Clowney looks at the Tennessee Titans in free agency, he should see a lot of familiarity.

Not only was head coach Mike Vrabel his former defensive coordinator back in 2017 when he had his best season with the Houston Texans, but now he has a former teammate and trusted friend in Tennessee after Johnathan Joseph announced he was signing with the Titans.

Joseph and Clowney have a close relationship, and both share something in common: their home town is Rock Hill, South Carolina.

An article from 2017 by the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson went into more detail about the former teammates’ special relationship.

Although they’re not related by blood, Clowney and Joseph have a relationship like brothers.

“I just think anytime you’re from the same hometown, got the same dreams, grow up together, me being in the league a little longer, I’m always going to give him the in’s and out’s and try to guide him the best way I can,” Joseph said. “Obviously, he has the talent and the skills. His game speaks for itself. I’m just trying to help him any way I can.”

“It’s great,” Clowney said. “Since I walked into the NFL, he’s been there to guide me the whole way. Every question I ask, he’s got an answer for it.

“He’s always been there. He’s always going to continue to be there. I’m glad he’s on my team. Big ups to my boy.”

Now, will Joseph’s close relationship with Clowney guarantee the Titans land him? Of course not, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.

Perhaps Titans general manager Jon Robinson should deploy Joseph to make a phone call to Clowney in order to help the cause, if he hasn’t done so already.

As if we didn’t have enough reasons to like the Joseph signing, we might be able to add one more to the list if the veteran cornerback can help recruit Clowney to Nashville.
