In a move that was merely a formality, LaMelo Ball has reportedly declared for the 2020 NBA Draft, as reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Ball was on the list of early-entry candidates distributed to teams across the league on Tuesday night.
The significance of the move is that teams can begin the pre-draft process with Ball. Currently, that is largely limited to only interviews over the computer as teams are yet allowed to work out prospects.
As it stands, no date has been set for the draft and while it hasn’t yet been moved from its current June 25 scheduled date, the only way it’ll go on as scheduled on that date would be if the league cancels the remainder of the season in the coming weeks.
The latest DraftExpress mock draft has Ball going fifth overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Ball figures to be in the conversation for the top pick, though, as DraftExpress also lists his best fit as with the Warriors, who currently hold the top spot in the draft lottery.
