The Miami Dolphins’ affinity for defensive backs continues! The Dolphins, after resigning Adrian Colbert, adding Byron Jones and then drafting Noah Igbinoghene and Brandon Jones early in the 2020 NFL Draft, continued to build out their secondary on Monday with the news that the team was signing free agent safety Kavon Frazier. Frazier, who came through the NFL Draft process back in 2016 and spent the first four seasons of his NFL career in Dallas with the Cowboys, becomes Miami’s latest addition to a group that is plentiful in both numbers and now also in talent.
#CowboyNation I appreciate all the love and support through my years of wearing the star. The star will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you to the Jones family, And the coaching staff for the opportunity. Time to reach new limits! Let’s get it Miami! #FinsUp 🐬 pic.twitter.com/tIw6FaRJK7

Frazier shouldn’t be expected to compete for a starting role — it’d be highly unlikely for him to push either Bobby McCain or Eric Rowe from the starting lineup. But Frazier brings plenty of special teams experience, something that should afford him a realistic chance of making Miami’s roster when the time comes to whittle things down at the start of the season. Expect Frazier’s biggest competition to come from Clayton Fejedelem for reps once the team straps up and gets into training camp.
For the Dolphins, Frazier’s addition continues Miami’s trend of coveting defensive backs — the team has more than 15 on the expanded 90-man roster now that the draft has come and gone. If they make the cut, one thing we also know for certain is that Coach Flores will find a way to use them; his defense leans heavily on sub-packages and depth in the secondary.
One variable to watch will be how Frazier is able to bounce back from a pectoral injury that limited him to just four games and 71 total snaps for the Cowboys last season.
