Dolphins trade pick No. 153 for 49ers RB Matt Breida

Dolphins trade pick No. 153 for 49ers RB Matt Breida

The concerns that the Miami Dolphins did not secure a 2020 running backfield trade? Go ahead and dismiss them. The Miami Dolphins have heard them — and they’ve promptly dismissed them. With the team coughing up picks to move up in the 4th-round, it looked as though Miami was going to come up empty-handed in the running back department.

But a key trade has allowed the Dolphins to secure an explosive talent in the backfield for the price of the 153rd overall pick in the NFL Draft. The Dolphins have officially secured RB Matt Breida from the San Francisco 49ers to pair with RB Jordan Howard behind the team’s new-look offensive line.

Breida averages 5.0 yards per carry over the course of his three-year career — he’s thrived in coach Kyle Shanahan’s rush heavy offense. But in Miami, Breida will need to fill a different role. With Howard working between the tackles, Breida will need to thrive as a pass catcher and as the change of pace back out of the backfield.

This is a bargain for the Dolphins when you consider the talent left on the board, now it will be up to the team to find the right balance to get him the right touches in their new offense.
