The 49ers have traded for Washington left tackle Trent Williams according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
San Francisco will acquire the former first-round pick for a fifth-round pick in 2020, and a third-round selection in 2021.
Williams was a seven-time Pro Bowler in Washington after joining the club as the No. 4 overall pick in 2010, Kyle Shanahan’s first year there as the offensive coordinator.
The team still hasn’t heard an official announcement from left tackle Joe Staley about his future. Staley is signed through 2021 after inking a two-year extension last offseason. This move appears to indicate the 49ers aren’t certain Staley is returning, even though general manager John Lynch on Wednesday expressed confidence the six-time Pro Bowler would be back for a 14th season.
