The Indianapolis Colts have gotten through Day 2 of the 2020 NFL draft while making some splashing moves in the second and third rounds. They came away with explosive talents in Michael Pittman Jr. and Jonathan Taylor while adding some upside in Julian Blackmon.

Though we don’t know exactly what will happen with these picks right now, Draft Wire graded out every team’s Day 2 picks. While the selections of Pittman Jr. and Taylor are met with praise, they earned a B- grade from our friends over at Draft Wire.
One of a handful of teams without a first-round selection, the Colts made the most of their Day 2 picks to make up for sitting out the first 32 spots.
It started at No. 34 overall with USC wide receiver Michael Pittman, Jr. who is a perfect complement to T.Y. Hilton and Parris Campbell with his combination of size and physicality. The Colts then pulled a surprise by trading up in the second round for Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor, this year’s top prospect at the position.
It was Utah safety Julian Blackmon in the third round, but he wasn’t even the best safety available from his own team at that point (Terrell Burgess). That pick was puzzling, but the first two are big additions for Philip Rivers’ new offense.
Grade: B-
The Colts set out to make their offense more explosive. They did that with Pittman Jr. and Taylor, both of which should have immediate impacts at their respective positions.
It will be the Blackmon pick that will scratch some heads. There is no doubting his talent and upside. However, he’s four months into ACL recovery and isn’t expected to be ready for the start of the season. Could they have waited on him and grabbed him on Day 3? We’ll never know.
Regardless, the Colts set out to add explosive talents with upside, and they did that on Day 2.
