Another day, another Oklahoma record in the modern era of the NFL draft.

The NFL transitioned the draft to seven rounds in 1994. Since that move, a lot of college football programs have had back-to-back years with quarterbacks selected.

However, when Jalen Hurts was selected in the second round by the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night, Oklahoma became the first school to have a quarterback drafted in the first two rounds in three-straight seasons. According to Oklahoma football, no school had produced quarterbacks drafted in the first five rounds in three-straight seasons.

The pick rewards Hurts’ decision to transfer to Oklahoma from Alabama prior to the 2019 season. He ended up second in the Heisman voting behind winner Joe Burrow from LSU.

Baker Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy in the 2017 season before becoming the No. 1 pick overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2018. Kyler Murray won the Heisman Trophy in the 2018 season before becoming the No. 1 overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019.
