NFL Draft: Eagles fans are furious after team drafted Jalen Hurts in second round

Fans were stunned that the Eagles took Jalen Hurts in the second round.

The Green Bay Packers stunned NFL fans in Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft by taking a quarterback, and on Friday night, fans were similarly stumped by the Eagles’ decision to take a backup to Carson Wentz with the 53rd overall pick.

The former Oklahoma and Alabama star joins a team that is all in on Wentz, who is still only 27, but has been plagued by injuries in past seasons. Wentz put up MVP caliber numbers for much of the 2017 season, but missed the team’s Super Bowl run. The following year, Wentz missed five games, and went just 5-6 as a starter.

The Eagles drafted a weapon for Wentz in the first round in TCU’s Jalen Reagor – a polarizing choice that was hailed by many analysts but derided by fans, who wanted a more well-known WR – but instead of addressing the team’s defensive needs, GM Howie Roseman went with a quarterback.
