The Jacksonville Jaguars have hinted at being committed to Gardner Minshew II this offseason and further proved that by getting him some help at receiver. With the No. 42 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Jags selected Colorado receiver Laviska Shenault Jr.
Shenault, a dominant receiver from the Pac-12, was deemed one of the most physical receivers in the 2020 draft and lined up at various positions, including running back, wild-cat quarterback, slot receiver, and was used in the fashion of a tight end at times, too.
Shenault dealt with a core muscle injury and pubic bone inflammation throughout his last season at Colorado and was only able to register 764 yards and six touchdowns. Still, he was able to garner second-team All Pac 12 honors. In 2018, he earned first-team All Pac-12 honors after accumulating a career-high of 86 catches for 1,011 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
The Jags are likely hoping Shenault will be their No. 2 receiver with Pro Bowl receiver D.J. Chark taking a big step to be the Jags’ No. 1 last season. He should also allow the Jags to kick Dede Westbrook back to the slot spot where he was at his best. The Jags also have receivers Keelan Cole and Chris Conley at the top of the depth chart, too.
