Clyde Edwards-Helaire to wear No. 25 jersey with Chiefs

Clyde Edwards-Helaire took one of the best running back jersey numbers.

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the jersey number of first-round draft pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire and it’s a good one.

Edwards-Helaire wore the No. 22 jersey at LSU, but defensive back Juan Thornhill wears that number with Kansas City. Thornhill wasn’t going to change numbers, so naturally, Edwards-Helaire decided to choose a new number to signify his leap to the NFL.

Edwards-Helaire will be wearing the No. 25 jersey with the Chiefs. It is a number that has a pretty great history in Kansas City and is widely regarded as one of the best numbers that running back can wear in the NFL.

Check it out:

Last season, LeSean McCoy wore No. 25 in Kansas City. It was originally going to be worn by Darwin Thompson, but McCoy wore that number his entire career and got Thompson to give it up when he signed with the team.

Prior to that, the No. 25 was famously worn by Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles. Charles is beloved by Chiefs Kingdom and remains the franchises all-time rushing yardage leader. It’s a pretty big deal to see Edwards-Helaire wearing the number that Charles wore in Kansas City. Charles was absolutely electrifying on the field.

While Charles and Edwards-Helaire are entirely different styles of players, Chiefs fans will hope that their new running back can make a similar type of game-breaking impact for years to come.
