I listed Edwards-Helaire as one of my three underrated draft prospects for the Chiefs at pick No. 32. Really it was his ability as a receiver that intrigued me the most. He has a knack for getting open against linebackers and safeties out of the backfield. That’s not to say he isn’t a good rusher either. In fact, he’s the only player in SEC history to rush for over 1,000 yards and catch 55 passes in a single season. Another weapon in an already potent Chiefs offense is not something that you’ll find me complaining about.

At first I was conflicted, but the more I think about it, the more I like this pick. Edwards-Helaire is fast, shifty and has tremendous balance. He has the potential to be a real threat in the Chiefs’ crowded offense.

Sure, drafting a running back in round one is typically a questionable move, but K.C. has hardly any holes. Oh, and they just won the dang Super Bowl. They had the freedom to pretty much go wherever they wanted with this pick.

With the final pick of the first round, Kansas City selected a shifty running back from Louisiana State that promises to be an impact playmaker in the future. Though Edwards-Helaire isn’t one of the biggest names in this draft (though it may be one of the longest) he plays with a type of explosiveness that warrants his selection as a first-round pick. It’s almost impossible to imagine how the Chiefs offense could get any better, but with this selection, it just might’ve.
