The New Orleans Saints shocked the NFL world by picking Michigan offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz with the 24th pick in the first round of this year’s draft, and reactions were predictably split. Here’s how fans, media personalities, and observers from around the league reacted to the move:
The Saints bolstering their already great OL is an example of how good teams stay good. pic.twitter.com/g7WUhRSuhE

The #Saints are so good at this. Ruiz is a stud. Didn't expect it but it's a great pick

Ruiz, man. I'm so happy for that dude.

Interesting pick here for the Saints! Not upset, just thought there were other needs. Ruiz is the best IOL in the draft, and he will add some great depth to the group! #WelcomeToNOLA https://t.co/valdTMsYAy

Just To Get Y’all Up To Speed. The Saints Basically Go Replace The Contract Of Ruiz For Warford’s Next Year So They Can Pay Kamara !

I felt pretty certain the a Saints would go offensive line in the first round but thought they’d have to move up to get their guy. Never heard of Ruiz, but then again I didn’t know Ramczyk either. Hope this goes as well as that did.

We didn't cheer the Ramczyk or McCoy picks and they became excellent lineman for the Saints. Taking Ruiz is a good pick and a need for the Saints

hey saints folks, the interior of the line is the reason we lost to minnesota.
the Ruiz pick just solidified our offensive line as arguably the best in the NFL when healthy.
it’s not a sexy pick, but it gives Brees & the offense the best chance to succeed. just take a breath!

Anybody who hates the Ruiz pick…just remember there were reports Saints were pursuing top Guards in free agency and then resigned Peat when there weren’t many options left. Anxiety and worry set in every time Peat has been hurt for me. I miss Kelemete.

No surprise to see the #Saints take a lineman in the first round, or with their first overall selection, when it’s what they’ve done every year since 2015. Peat, Rankins, Ramczyk, Davenport, McCoy and now Ruiz.

After the Saints loss to the Vikings everyone immediately pointed out how bad the OL performed. Now people don't want OL help?

A lot of #Saints fans have issues with drafting OL, but, Ryan R., Erik M. and Andrus P. have all worked out for them. It's a smart pick, but not sexy.
You know what, big guys are sexy too.

Two straight years the Saints use their top pick on an interior offensive lineman.
