Report: Colts have ‘done a lot of homework’ on WR CeeDee Lamb

Could a trade for CeeDee Lamb be in the works?

When talking about a potential trade into the first round of the 2020 NFL draft for the Indianapolis Colts, it is mostly around getting a quarterback. But could they be targeting wide receiver CeeDee Lamb?

The Oklahoma prospect is regarded as arguably the top wide receiver in one of the deepest classes in recent memory, which means every team has done their homework on him.

However, the Colts are reportedly among the teams who “have done a lot of homework” on Lamb, per Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle.

What this means isn’t all that clear. Every team does homework on every prospect, especially a team as diligent as the Colts. They were likely heavily considering him at the No. 13 pick, but they traded that away for defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.

Even if the Colts wanted to trade up for Lamb, they would have to give up a massive deal to do so. Lamb isn’t expected to get past the top-12 picks. Holding the No. 34 pick, the Colts would have to give up a whole lot to even get into the middle of the round.

Given how much Chris Ballard wants to add picks rather than give them up, it’s highly unlikely they will be making a move to the middle of the first.

That said, this draft will be unpredictable and if the Colts really love Lamb—as every team does—it will be interesting to see if anything comes of it.
