Draft Day is finally here, and we can all rejoice and bask in the glory of a live sporting event (sort of) that will take place over the next three days. You’ve read the mocks, you’ve studied the big boards, and you’re ready to critique or complement every pick as soon as it comes off the board. Welcome, this is your time to shine.
For the Washington Redskins, this is an incredibly important draft to get right, with a new coaching staff and young roster looking to make an eventual leap into relevancy. The players that are added to the roster over the next few days will have the chance to be apart of what Ron Rivera and the Redskins are building from the ground up.
So do you have any questions about the draft itself? Not to worry, we have answers. Below is our complete guide to the 2020 NFL Draft, where you’ll hopefully find all of the information you need to know.
When does the draft start?
The first round of the draft is on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET. After the first 32 picks have been made, the event will be put on pause for the night, and the second- and third-rounds will resume on Friday evening, starting at 7 p.m. ET. Rounds 4-7 will be held on Saturday, starting at 12 p.m. ET.
How do I watch the draft?
The draft will be available to watch on most sporting networks for every round, but here is specifically where you can find it:
Thursday: ABC, ESPN, NFL Network, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Radio
Friday: ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, NFL Network, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Radio
Saturday: ABC, ESPN, NFL Network, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Radio
What picks do the Redskins have?
Day 1:
Round 1 — Pick No. 2
Day 2:
Round 3 — Pick No. 66
Day 3:
Round 4 — Picks No. 108, 142
Round 5 — Pick No. 162
Round 7 — Picks No. 216, 229
What are some positions of need for the Redskins?
Washington likely won’t draft for need with their first-round pick, but that’s understandable when you consider that Chase Young is on the board. After that though, the Redskins will focus to add depth to their roster and hopefully find some players who can contribute minutes at the following positions:
- Tight End
- Wide Receiver
- Left Tackle
- Cornerback
- Linebacker
- Running Back
- Safety
FAQ’s
Q: Are there any draft day trades that the Redskins could make?
A: Absolutely, and at this point, I would be surprised to see if a trade didn’t take place somewhere for the Redskins. There has been a lot of buzz surrounding Trent Williams in the last few days, as the team looks to ship him away before the draft comes to an end. It will take a quality pick for Washington let a blue-chip player like Williams go, and many believe that they are hoping to get as high as a second-round pick in return. Some teams to keep an eye on are the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Minnesota Vikings.
Q: Is there any chance the Redskins don’t draft Chase Young at No. 2 or trade the second pick away?
A: At this point, I can’t see it happening. Both Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio are reportedly very high on Young, and they’re itching at the possibility of adding him to the roster. I would be willing to be a large amount of money saying that Chase Young is a Washington Redskin by the end of Thursday night.
Q: Will the coronavirus pandemic have any effect on the draft, other than making it virtual?
A: The answer is TBD, honestly. The NFL has reportedly worked out several glitches that took place in their first virtual mock draft with the 32 teams, and they feel confident that it will go off without a hitch. But still, it is tough to predict when technology will fail, and there is always a chance. There are safety nets in place for teams who have technical issues, such as a team being able to call the league directly and make the pick via telephone. While the anticipation for a problem may be high, the likelihood that something gets royally screwed up is very low.
