The extension deadline was the final day of October 2012, the same day as the Warriors’ season opener in Phoenix. If Curry remained healthy, the Warriors told Austin a max offer would be awaiting him the following summer in restricted free agency. As Marcus Thompson reported in his Curry biography, Curry’s hometown Charlotte Bobcats also loomed as a franchise desperate to sign him. “If healthy, he was getting a max. No doubt,” Thompson said earlier this week. “Everyone had seen what he pulled off his rookie year. The ankle was the question mark. Charlotte might have been willing to risk it more than other teams because he was certainly a beloved figure there. But I wouldn’t say it was a guaranteed max. If he’d gotten hurt again and missed a chunk of the season, I doubt a max would have been offered.”
