No matter which NFL team drafts Ohio State defensive end Chase Young on Thursday evening, he will have to think of a new number to rock in his rookie season. The Washington Redskins — who are expected to take him with the No. 2 overall pick — don’t have anyone with that number on the roster, but NFL rules permit a defensive lineman from wearing a single digit on their jersey. In fact, Young will be confined to picking a number between 50-79, or in the 90s.
Young seems to have an idea for what number he might choose, and it’s as high as one can go: 99.
While talking to Ryan Clark on his Instagram Live on Tuesday, Young admitted that the number 99 appealed to him, seeing as he wore No. 9 in high school. Unfortunately, Caleb Brantley is currently No. 99 on the Redskins, but if Chase wants it, I’m sure something can be worked out.
So if you were wondering what that Washington Redskins Chase Young jersey was going to look like once you order it in a few months? Get used to the No. 99 across your chest.
