The chance to win is the biggest lure for any free agent, and Charlotte has work to do to make a stronger case on that front. That said, Charlotte should be well-positioned to compete against non-glamor markets for free agents. It’s a warm-weather city, and it’s much more vibrant than most of the noncoastal cities. Additionally, a big chunk of the league has roots in the Carolinas or relatively nearby Atlanta … including a guard from Davidson who grew up watching Hornets games and, alas, is now having a Hall of Fame career on the other coast. Finally, there’s the Jordan factor. His Airness hasn’t typically put himself out front as an owner, but in a recruiting situation, he’s a potentially huge asset who can be a tiebreaker who can push a free-agent pursuit to the finish line. While Charlotte may be better off keeping its powder dry this summer, certainly you’d like to see Jordan become a factor in the summer of 2021.
