If you were to place bets on what the Washington Redskins will do with the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Chase Young would be the heavy favorite as the pick.
There have been some questions as to whether or not the Redskins would trade the pick away to some team who is desperate enough to move up and draft Tua Tagovailoa, and some others have also pondered if the Redskins would draft Tua themselves. However, it seems likely that Washington takes Young — the easy pick in that position.
If you were to ask NFL Network’s Scott Hanson, the host of NFL RedZone, he thinks this is the right move, saying that it has a chance to haunt them in the future if they were to do something different.
“If you trade down, you are saying goodbye to Chase Young,” Hanson said via NBC Sports Washington. “And that could haunt the franchise for a while, even if they did get a couple of other first-round draft picks.”
There have been a number of hopeful Washington fans who have been conducting a few mock drafts this past week and posting them on social media. In many of those drafts, it has been prefaced by the scenario where the Redskins trade the No. 2 pick to the Miami Dolphins, getting back No. 5 and No. 18 in return. In many of these drafts, Chase Young is still the pick for Washington at No. 5, which needs to be addressed. As Hanson said above, there is no way that Young will be available to the Redskins if they trade out of the No. 2 pick, so it’s pointless to dream that it could happen.
If Washington wants Young, they’ll take him at two. If they don’t, it could definitely haunt them.
