The NBA 2K Players Tournament became the most-watched esports broadcast in ESPN history and could be a regular event in the future as a result.

The NBA and 2K worked quicky to put together the Players Tournament with the regular season shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Sixteen players agreed to participate in the event and helped provide entertainment for fans in self-isolation.

Based on the success of the first-ever NBA 2K Players Tournament, the organizers of the event believe it can be something that continues in the future.

“We’re proud of what we’ve pulled off here,” Matt Holt, the NBA’s senior vice president of global partnerships, said in a statement to the LA Times. “I think we will try to do more of these in the future, regardless if we’re in the current situation or if we have live sports back.”

The semifinals and the finals, which are a best-of-three series, were set to take place Saturday night.
