It’s a sad day for fans of the XFL. The upstart spring football league has suspended all operations and terminated all day-to-day employees effective immediately.
Employees were informed via a conference call. I confirmed the details of the call with two separate XFL staffers who are now out of a job. No questions were allowed in the brief call.
The XFL’s second go-around had considerable fanfare and did catch on with some markets, notably non-NFL television locales. But the league was forced to terminate the first season halfway through the schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic and all the associated travel and gathering restrictions.
XFL players have been free to sign with the NFL. Now the employees from the individual teams, coaching staffs and league office are also available.
