Texans send 2nd round pick to Rams for Brandin Cooks, shaking up draft order

One of the more boneheaded trades in NFL history occurred this off-season when the Houston Texans sent DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals for a David Johnson and a second-round pick (No. 40 overall).

While the Texans didn’t have a first-round pick (traded to Miami), they had two second-round picks and a need at receiver which the signing of Randall Cobb was not going to fill.

Well, now they are back to one second-round pick as they have acquired Brandin Cooks from the Rams in exchange for the 57th overall pick and a pick in the 2022 draft, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

So, essentially they Rams traded DeAndre Hopkins for Brandin Cooks, David Johnson, and a 17-spot jump in the second round.

Meanwhile, it moves the need at wideout to the Rams who also don’t have a first-round pick, but now have two second-round picks (No. 52, No. 57).

Here is what the second round now looks like:

33. Cincinnati
34. Indianapolis (from WAS)
35. Detroit
36. NY Giants
37. LA Chargers
38. Carolina
39. Miami
40. Houston (from ARI)
41. Cleveland
42. Jacksonville
43. Chicago (from LV)
44. Indianapolis
45. Tampa Bay
46. Denver
47. Atlanta
48. NY Jets
49. Pittsburgh
50. Chicago
51. Dallas
52. LA Rams
53. Philadelphia
54. Buffalo
55. Baltimore (from NE via ATL)
56. Miami (from NO)
57. LA Rams (from HOU)
58. Minnesota
59. Seattle
60. Baltimore
61. Tennessee
62. Green Bay
63. Kansas City (from SF)
64. Seattle (from KC)

The Raiders don’t currently have a pick in round two as it was sent to Chicago in the Khalil Mack trade (No. 43). They have two picks in the first round (No. 12 and No. 19) and their next pick after that is No. 80 in the third round. After that, they have two more third-round picks (No. 81, No. 91), a pick in the fourth round (No. 121), and in the fifth (No. 159). They have no picks in the sixth and seventh rounds.
