Chicago Bulls guard Coby White experienced his fair share of ups and downs throughout his rookie season but it was recently when things really began to click on the court.
Prior to the NBA shutting down due to the coronavirus pandemic, White was one of the hottest players in the league. In 10 games after the All-Star break, White averaged 24.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 rebounds on 40.7% shooting from 3-point range.
According to White, it was at that point of the season when he knew he belonged on the court. White spoke with Sam Smith of Bulls.com about his time off during the NBA hiatus and also dished on his first career start when he recorded 20 points on March 10.
It was exciting to get my first start because, obviously, my goal is to be a starting point guard in the NBA. So that meant a lot being my first one. I feel like after the All-Star break I got a lot more comfortable on the court with running the team and the offense, and defensively. I felt I definitely could play in this league.
I felt like after the All-Star break, I could make a huge impact in the league. So I just have to keep doing what I’m doing. This first year has been good for me with the ups and downs to see what I needed to do, to go through the adversity, and then after the All-Star break.
White has been spending his time in self-isolation by participating in workouts designed by the Bulls’ coaching staff. He has also logged plenty of time on Netflix after watching “Young Justice” with “All-American” up next in the queue.
With basketball at a standstill, White, like all NBA players, is eager to get back out on the court but is just thankful to have his health at this point given the circumstances.
