Michigan’s offense switched identities just over a year ago, looking to bring in more of a ‘speed in space’ philosophy.

Well, there’s few high school athletes that embody that principle more than 2021 Baltimore (MD) Mount St. Joseph four-star wide receiver Dont’e Thornton.

According to 247Sports, Thornton was clocked running a 4.6 40-yard dash and has ‘deceptive speed,’ per analyst Brian Dohn. Michigan offensive coordinator Josh Gattis has been in hot pursuit of the No. 47 ranked prospect in 2021, according to the 247Sports Composite, and it’s paid off, with the Wolverines making his latest cut.

On Saturday, Thornton released a Top 12 with Michigan, LSU, Penn State, West Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, USC, Florida State, Arizona State, Oregon, Notre Dame and Virginia being his finalists.

Naturally, the 6-foot-5, 195-pound receiver has a lot to trim down given the quantity that’s made his recent cut. But Thornton is expected to make his decision in late January.
