Redskins select CB Jeff Okudah, OL Josh Jones in 2020 mock draft with trade

If the Redskins were to end up trading out of the No. 2 pick, many believe that they would come away with CB Jeffery Okudah.

If you had to take a guess as to what’s most likely to happen in the NFL Draft later this month, the safe thought is that the Washington Redskins will stick with their pick at No. 2 and select DE Chase Young out of Ohio State.

There have been some questions as to whether or not the Redskins would trade out of the pick if a prospective team were to offer them enough to do so, but it’s unlikely anyone will meet their asking price. The Miami Dolphins are seemingly the team that most fits the bill, as they have the No. 5 pick and a desire to add QB Tua Tagovailoa to their roster. They also have the No. 18 pick, as well as the No. 26 pick in the first round this year. For Washington to give up a chance to draft Young, they would need the No. 5, No. 26, and a second-rounder at a very minimum to do so, and even that might not get it done.

Though it’s an unlikely trade, a new mock draft from CBS is seeing what would happen if it did take place. In this mock, the Dolphins traded up to No. 2 and drafted Tagovailoa, leading to Young being drafted by the Detroit Lions, LB Isaiah Simmons to the New York Giants at No. 4, and leaving former Ohio State CB Jeffery Okudah for the Redskins to take at No. 5. Later, with the No. 26 pick acquired in the trade, Washington is pegged to take OL Josh Jones, from Houston.

While it is tough to miss out on both Young and Simmons, snagging Okudah with the fifth pick would be a great get for the Redskins, and it would instantly improve their defensive secondary. Washington did sign both Kendall Fuller and Ronald Darby to hold down the CB position for the time being, but Okudah is one the best defensive prospects in the draft, and he has a bright future in the NFL ahead of him. Later in the first round, the addition of Jones would single-handedly help temper the Trent Williams situation. Williams, who is unlikely to play for the Redskins in 2020, is going to leave a big hole to fill in his wake, and Washington currently doesn’t have a great answer to fill it. Drafting a left tackle in the first round would give them at the very least a solid competition for the starting spot at the second most important position on the offense.
