Tennessee Titans’ Derrick Henry was a red zone scoring machine in 2019

Derrick Henry was unstoppable in the red zone last season.

It’s hard to believe that Derrick Henry was once playing second-fiddle to Dion Lewis within the Tennessee Titans’ offense.

Those days are long gone, as he had one of the most successful seasons of any offensive player last year, finishing out the 2019 campaign with the league’s rushing title after he racked up a total of 1,540 yards on the ground.

Henry was dangerous from anywhere on the field last year and he carried the offense in the ground game, particularly in the playoffs.

But he was especially good in the red zone, as he recorded 15 of his 18 rushing touchdowns (including playoffs) from the 20-yard line or closer in 2019.

That was good for the second most among halfbacks behind Green Bay Packers running back, Aaron Jones, per Pro Football Focus.

As far as regular season only red zone touchdowns were concerned, Jones once again edged out Henry, 14 to 13.

Henry recorded 16 rushing touchdowns in total during the regular season last year, which tied him for the league lead with Jones. He also added 18 receptions for a pair of scores.

Placing the franchise tag Henry was one of the best moves the Titans made this offseason, right next to signing Ryan Tannehill to an extension.

Over four seasons with the Titans, Henry has posted 3,833 yards on the ground and 38 touchdowns, along with 57 receptions and three touchdown catches.
