Former Boston Celtic Al Horford might not play for the Massachusetts franchise any longer, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about his fans there.
The now-Philadelphia 76ers big man has donated $500,000 to the area and five other locations each to help fight the virus behind the pandemic, reports The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Horford is also making equivalent donations to help his native Dominican Republic, and four other locations he either plays or played basketball in — Michigan, Florida, Atlanta and Philadelphia.
The five-time All-Star played high school and AAU basketball in Michigan before becoming a member of the Florida Gators in college, where he won two NCAA championships with center Joakim Noah.

The 33-year-old forward played in the NBA for the Atlanta Hawks for nine seasons before three with the Celtics between 2016 and 2019, and now plays for the 76ers, leaving Boston after the tumultuous 2019-20 NBA season.
