Former Raiders DE Benson Mayowa career comes full circle, signing on with Seahawks

Early last season, no one on the Raiders defense was hotter than Benson Mayowa. The eighth-year veteran roared out the gates, putting up a team-leading seven sacks in his first eight games since returning to the Raiders. Those seven sacks were a career-high, but after that eighth game, he didn’t post another sack for the rest of the season. Much of that had to do with the emergence of rookie Maxx Crosby.

It was Mayowa’s second go-round with the Raiders. The first time was in 2014-15 when he was claimed off waivers from the Seahawks with whom he had originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Idaho.

The Raiders didn’t re-sign Mayowa this offseason and now two weeks into free agency, he has found a home. It’s back in his first NFL home in Seattle. The deal is for one year at $3 million, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Mayowa is still just 28 years of age and a veteran of seven NFL seasons. This is the fifth time he’s changed team in that span and his fourth different NFL team. Mayowa also spent two seasons in Dallas and one season in Arizona.
