Sean Marks: Nets’ decision at head coach will ‘come down to myself, the front office and ownership’

Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks says he’s not placing the decision regarding the team’s next head coach on any players.

Wednesday marks three weeks since the NBA went on hiatus due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, though it feels like this time without live sports has been longer.

It also feels like it’s been more than a month since the Brooklyn Nets and Kenny Atkinson mutually parted ways, yet it only been 25 days as of April 1.

Because of the hiatus, Jacque Vaughn was only able to serve as head coach for two games. He still wears the interim tag. Upon the announcement of Atkinson’s departure, Vaughn was set to hold the title for the remainder of 2019-20.

Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks told reporters on a conference call Wednesday there haven’t been any developments regarding the head coach position, because the process is on hold, per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News.

But when the process does start again for Marks, the Nets GM says he isn’t going to lean on players to help with the decision, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post:

Ultimately I’m not going to put that decision on any one, two, four or five players; it’s going to come down to myself, the front office and ownership.
