High praise for new TE Eric Ebron from GM Colbert: "There’s definitely athleticism, there’s red zone production, there’s run after the catch. He’s really a premier kind of receiving tight end for this league when he’s healthy."

In 2012, former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller caught 71 passes for 816 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns. This was the last time you could look at the Steelers tight end position in terms of being a vital part of the passing offense.
But Pittsburgh general manager Kevin Colbert talks like this could change in 2020 with the addition of Eric Ebron. Colbert heaped high praise on Ebron’s ability to be a premier receiving tight end with the one great caveat of health. Ebron has dealt with injuries during the course of his career which has been a significant hindrance to statistical significance.
Ebron’s best season as a pro was 2018 when he caught 66 passes for 750 receiving yards and made the Pro Bowl. The downside to that season was Ebron was targeted a remarkable 110 times to haul in those 66 receptions.
Is Ebron the answer to the Steelers lack of production at tight end? Absolutely but until we see it on the field, we won’t hold our breath.
