James Harden honors anniversary of friend Nipsey Hussle’s death

“It’s been one full year today,” Harden wrote in recognizing the March 31, 2019 passing of his close friend. “Missing you like crazy.”

Houston Rockets star James Harden took to his personal Facebook page Tuesday to recognize the one-year anniversary of Nipsey Hussle‘s death.

Los Angeles-based rapper Ermias Davidson Asghedom, known professionally as Nipsey Hussle, was gunned down on March 31, 2019, at the age of 33. He was killed in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles outside of Marathon Clothing, the store owned by Hussle.

The tragedy occurred near the Crenshaw area, where both he and Harden went to Audubon Middle School and became close friends.

“Missing you like crazy bro,” Harden wrote as part of his message, which concluded with the hashtag #HussleDay.

Hussle showed strong support for Harden across many endeavors and high points of his life, even on the night of Harden’s first-ever NBA MVP award. The rapper has also attended several charity functions hosted by Harden over the years, including JH-Town Weekend in Houston.

Harden has reciprocated that same support over the years by playing his music everywhere he goes, including Nipsey Hussle’s songs in all of his signature playlists. His music is still played at the Toyota Center before Rockets’ home games. According to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, Harden requests the team’s in-house deejay to play a lot of Nipsey Hussle, along with other Los Angeles-based hip-hop.

Hussle is survived by two children and his girlfriend, Lauren London.
