Report: NBA considering moving playoffs to Atlantic City amid pandemic

The NBA is thinking about moving playoff games to Atlantic City, New Jersey.

With the NBA currently suspended as the world attempts to flatten the curve in terms of stopping COVID-19, the NBA is beginning to think about plans for when they can resume play.

Ideas have been thrown out such as moving everything to one, neutral location such as Las Vegas. The idea seems feasible as there are a few gyms that can be used and there are plenty of hotels for teams, media, fans, and the like.

Now, assuming the NBA still wants the full 16 team playoff field, why not have the Western Conference playoffs in Vegas and the Eastern Conference playoffs in another city. Like maybe, perhaps Atlantic City, New Jersey which is considered as Las Vegas-lite?

According to the New York Post’s Marc Berman, it is on the table:

The obvious destination for a one-site event is UNLV in Las Vegas, which has hosted recent summer leagues with all 30 clubs. Hotels are plentiful. One destination reportedly discussed was the Bahamas. According to an NBA source, there’s also been internal talks about Orlando, Atlantic City, Hawaii and Louisville hosting the playoffs.

Could you imagine Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons getting done a playoff game and then spending the rest of the day on the beach in Atlantic City? It’s just a little under an hour’s drive from Philadelphia for fans of the 76ers. Of they are to move things to a neutral site, this would be the best-case scenario for Sixers fans.
