Latest NFL.com mock draft sends Ohio State EDGE Chase Young to the Lions at No. 3 without any trades

With a month to go until the 2020 NFL Draft, it seems more draft analysts are sensing the potential for Ohio State EDGE Chase Young to fall to the Detroit Lions at No. 3 overall. The latest to join the Young-to-Detroit party is Chad Reuter of NFL.com.

What’s interesting about Reuter’s projection is that he predicts the Washington Redskins select Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa outright. No team trades up ahead of the Lions to snag the polarizing Tagovailoa, but instead Washington pulls the trigger despite having last year’s first-rounder, Dwayne Haskins, still on the team.

That leaves Young for the Lions at the third pick. Of course that launches trade fantasies to acquire even more picks. But I’m of mind with Reuter here in his explanation,

“I wonder how many trade calls the Lions have already taken for this pick? Young’s talent is just too much to pass by unless there’s a trade offer that Detroit absolutely cannot ignore.”

It’s an intriguing mock draft overall. There are six trades, including one at No. 4. Ohio State CB Jeff Okudah falls to seventh, Clemson LB, Isaiah Simmons to 11th.

Reuter’s other projections for the Lions in the four-round mock:

2nd – Neville Gallimore, DT, Oklahoma

3rd – Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU

3rd – Zack Moss, RB, Utah

4th – Netane Muti, OG, Fresno State
